Updated: Man stabbed in Westcliff

A MAN has been stabbed in the chest following a fracas in Westcliff.

The man in his 20s was rushed to Southend Hospital after being stabbed in the chest in Hamlet Court Road at 3.30pm this afternoon. His condition is not believed to be life threatning.

Witnesses described seeing a group of men run down an alleyway between the shops from a nearby shop when they were chased before they heard a hammer hit the ground.

It is not known where the man was stabbed. Police have sealed off the alleyway and some shops while they investigate.

A 19-year-old man from Westcliff will appear in court this morning in connection with the stabbing of another man.

Solomon Ogunyinka of Hamlet Court Road has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

Ogunyinka will appear before magistrates in Southend today, Saturday..
