Man and teenagers rescued off Shoebury coast

A MAN and two teenagers had to be rescued from the sea after being cut off by the tide.

The 48-year-old male had gone out with the teenage boys to Mulberry Harbour, which is about a mile off the coast of Shoebury, before becoming stranded just before 11.30am on Monday.

The Southend RNLI hovercraft crew were dispatched to retrieve the group after the coastguard spotted them.

After being brought back to the shore, they were given safety advice.

I stopped at Shoebury beach for a little while this morning about two thirds of the way into a bike ride around the countryside and was surprise to see how far people were walking out over the mud towards the water so am not really surprised that this happened yesterday. Some people it would seem, have little common sense when it comes to the tide and the distance back to the shore.

I trust the people that were saved put their hands in their pockets and donated generously to the RNLI

It's not mud when you walk that far out its really nice sand and its perfectly safe if you revise the tide times before you go. Just silly people not taking the right safety precautions first.
