Southend coastguard and the RNLI called out twice in last night

SOUTHEND coastguard and the RNLI were called out to some late-night incidents last night.

At about 9.10pm, Thames Coastguard received a call that a distressed woman had been seen near Southend Pier. The coastguard and RNLI were sent to the scene and Essex Police were also informed. Despite a thorough search of the pier and surrounding area, she was not found. The coastguard then received information telling them the woman was no longer in the area and the crews were stood down.

Later the same night, at 10.40pm, the coastguard at Southend saw two red flares coming from the coastguard station at Shoebury while they were putting away their equipment from the earlier incident. Thames Coastguard sent Southend Coastguard and the Southend RNLI lifeboats to search the area but neither crew found anything untoward.
