It's a horrible stretch of road.
However, my thoughts are with all those involved.

I witness this accident today, and car which caused the accident was travelling so fast 60mph plus!! He also just missed a family with a young child who were on the pavement!!! He then ran over to the van (as he was not injured) and when he saw what he had done to the poor people, he sat on the floor with his head in his hands! Luckily a police car was passing and straight away stopped all the traffic, His driving was completely reckless and I feel so sorry for the poor people involved, as there was nothing that they could have done to save themselves!

Everyone is so obessed with the speed, the van actually pulled out into the cars side of the road to what ive heard, so putting it down to speed means nothing, no matter how fast that boy was going he still would of had to of swerved!
The point is, if the driver was doing 30mph he would have been able to make an emergency stop without swerving.

I too have seen the skid marks. But bearing in mind the car hit the passenger side of the van one can only deduce that the van was doing a u turn in the road. Irrespective of any speed the car may have been doing this accident could probably not have been avoided. The professionals generally work on a perception/ response time of 1.4 seconds from realisng there is a hazzard to breaking. At 60mph the car would have continued to travel approx 130 feet, and at 30 mph this would have been approx 60 odd feet. This accident must be devestating to all involved and I hope they all recover quickly but I believe that if the car driver really was at fault he would have been arrested at the scene.

And yes, I know not all crashes are due to excessive speed, but I believe most of them are, and in fact the extent of damage is very much more dependent upon speed. You can't ignore physics and human nature. Unless you host a TV program about fast cars...

Totally agree rayboy, the fact that there were Police further down the road at Talbot Ave carrying out speedchecks indicates that it is a problem area. Would anyone have any serious objections to a speed camera on that bend?

I would expect a more logical assumption was that he was simply pulling out of the BT exchange, car came round corner way too fast meaning he had no chance of knowing the car was coming at such speed, and the speeder couldn't stop. Then they collided.
