Burglars strike at Westcliff charity shops - again

BURGLARS have struck at two Westcliff charity shops overnight.

They got into the Sue Ryder shop and the British Heart Foundation shop in Hamlet Court Road.

There have been nine burglaries of charity shops reported in Hamlet Court Road in the last month.

Police believe about £900 of cash has been stolen from these shops and £2000 of damage caused.

Officers have now stepped up night-time patrols in the area and are visiting the shops to offer security advice.

Louise Harbour, British Heart Foundation Area Manager for Westcliff , says: “We absolutely rely on the support of the Westcliff on Sea community to keep us running and without their vital donations we risk reducing the care and support available to heart patients across the country. “If each household were willing to spend just half an hour having a clear out and donating to the Westcliff shop it would make a big difference.” To find the location of your nearest BHF Shop please call 0844 412 5000 or visit bhf.org.uk/shops . The other shops targeted are Mind and the Samaritans. Anyone with information should call Southend police on 101.

Passing these shops about 6am, I saw Police seemingly looking for someone on the roof above the BHF shop. Let's hope they catch them & put a stop to these crimes.

If no money is left on the premises over night, how was £900 cash stolen?

It's about time there were nightly patrols by police in the Hamlet Court Road area. This is happening all too often and there is little to stop people trying to cause upset round there.
