Man robbed and stranged in Southend town centre
4:02pm Monday 23rd January 2012 in Southend
A TERRIFIED man was robbed of his mobile phone before being punched in the face.
The 20-year-old was in Alexandra Street, Southend, when he was viciously attacked and the phone was grabbed from his hand.
He ran towards the High Street but was chased down by the suspect who punched him again and strangled him.
This forced him to the ground, before the robber demanded his wallet.
This was handed over before the victim finally managed to struggle free, and run to Southend Victoria train station to ask for help.
The suspect is a white man with tanned skin, about 20 years old, with short dark gelled hair, brown eyes and designer stubble, with one tooth missing. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a grey t-shirt and a dark jacket and is believed to be of Polish nationality. Police enquiries have led them to believe the suspects nickname could be‘Rubin’.
Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area 4.30am and 5.10am on Saturday, January 21 and spotted anything suspicious.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery, or who recognises the distinctive description of the suspect, is asked to contact PC Reece Brent at Southend police station on 101.
