A NURSE has been suspended for 12 months after giving 13 children the wrong vaccines.

Agency nurse Susan Jane Goddard, of Westbourne Grove, Westcliff, was originally suspended for 18 months by a panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, in July last year.

There were complaints about her work at the Ashchurch Medical Centre and the Lillyville Surgery, both in Hammersmith, west London, in August and September 2008.

Solicitor for the council, Adelita Thursby, said in a written statement to London’s High Court that Goddard was alleged to have “administered the wrong vaccines and failed to properly record the vaccines administered”.

There were also allegations relating to cervical smear tests she had carried out.

The claims are under investigation and a hearing is due to decide the case against Goddard.

Elizabeth Forbes, a fitness to practice manager for the council, argued an extension to Goddard’s suspension was “necessary for the protection of members of the public” and to allow time for a full hearing.

Mr Justice Wilkie agreed to a further 12-month interim suspension, starting from January 7.
