BUILDING work is to start on a revamp of a Southend school.
The improvements to Sacred Heart School, in Windermere Road, come as part of a Government grant which will see two classrooms being expanded with cloakrooms and sinks added, a bigger special needs classroom and a refurbishment of the school’s kitchen.
The school, which was built in 1914, started planning for the improvements about six months ago and will close a day early for the end of term on Friday, July 17.
Work started on the headteacher’s office and a stockroom on June 23 and should be finished by the half-term break in October.
Headteacher Bridget Frampton said: “We are trying to ensure the children have improved facilities and the staff will be in on Friday to help move and box everything up.”
