POLICE closed Southchurch Road, Southend due to an accident.
The East of England Ambulance Service was called to Southchurch Road at 2.28pm and sent a rapid response vehicle to treat a woman in her late teens after she was knocked over by a white van outside Nursery Place.
One witness said he heard a bang and then saw a group of people surround the woman, including two shopkeepers, one of which went out with a first aid kit.
He said: “I heard a bang but, by the time I got up to have a look, people had gone out to help the lady who had been knocked over.
“She was sitting down on the corner and a lot of people were surrounding her. A white van was involved.”
