A GIRL aged nine was sexually assaulted in a Southend alleyway.
Police cordoned off the alley between Park Road and Park Street after the girl was found by a member of the public following the assault at about 5pm.
PCSOs and a police car are currently guarding the site while forensic evidence is collected.
A police spokesman said: “We are investigating a sexual offence which took place in an alley off Scratton Road, Southend just before 5pm.
“ The victim, aged nine, from the local area, was found by a member of the public who called the police.
“The victim is being cared for by specially trained officers. Inquiries are continuing to trace the suspect.
“Scene guards are in place while forensic recovery of potential evidence takes place.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Southend Police on 01245 282103.”
The alleyway is regularly used by residents of Park Street for parking but they are now being advised to park on the road until the cordon is lifted.
