School is raising £18,000 in one week
11:00am Friday 21st March 2014 in Southend
WESTCLIFF High School for Boys has set its sights on raising more than £18,000 with a charity week.
The annual school fundraiser will run from Friday, March 28, to Friday, April 4.
This year it will raise funds for the British Red Cross and Peaceful Place, Rochford, which cares for people with dementia.
Organisers are packing an ordinary school week with a number of events at breaktime, lunchtime and in the evening for the school and community to enjoy.
Classic events include Westcliff’s Got Talent and eating challenges, while new events for this year include a teacher pantomime, called Cinders, and a comedy night hosted by the Laughing Pod comedy club, in Southend.
The highlight of the week is the launch night, which will feature the school’s own charity week band as well as a visiting amateur dramatics group.
There will also be a charity auction with items including signed David Beckham merchandise and a Countdown teapot signed by presenter Rachel Riley. A hog roast dinner is also included in the ticket price of £10.
A spokesman from the school said: “This year, we are hoping to beat last year’s total of £18,000 and raise more money than ever before for two incredibly worthy causes.”
