THE newly-formed Thorpe Bay Business Association and Thorpe Bay Rotary Club joined forces to organise a festive celebration and farmers’ market.

Leanne Jarvis, who was a contestant on the TV talent show the Voice, sang three songs, Southend United manager Phil Brown held a question-and-answer session and the Funky Voices choir sang carols.

There was also a hog roast, fairground rides, mulled wine, mince pies and, of course a chance for youngsters to meet Father Christmas.

Ruby Bhasin, one of the organisers, who owns Cafe Ciao, in Thorpe Bay Broadway, said: “We had a very good turnout and it was amazing to get the support of so many people. Me and AR Adams funeral directors are the founding members of the association and we are pleased with how this, our first event, went.

“The aim of the group is to encourage people to shop here first, rather than going to Southend.”
