Carjacking in Westcliff

3:46pm Saturday 9th February 2013 in Southend

A CAR-JACKING took place in Westcliff this morning..

The incident started at West Road at about 8.25am on Saturday, February 9.

The car was stationary at traffic lights at the junction with London Road when the men jumped in, threatened the driver with a knife and demanded money. He was then ordered to drive off and into Cotswold Road.

The driver then managed to get out and run off as the thieves drove away with the car, a five-door silver Ford Escort.

The man brandishing the knife was white, 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, with a drawn-looking face and short light brown hair.

He was wearing a long-sleeved light-coloured jumper. The knife was described as a small serrated kitchen knife with a blade around 3-4in long with a black handle.

The second man was of a slight tanned Mediterranean appearance, more than 6ft tall, of large build which was more on the fat side than muscle, with a round face and black, short curly hair. It was not known what he was wearing.

Anyone with information should contact PC Kiri Karlo at Southend CID on 101.

theres a camera on that junction, sounds more like a robbery than a car jacking...seeing as they demanded money.

what has happened to Westcliff. Used to be such a nice place to live and go out, with nice big houses, lovely places to eat etc etc. Now its bedsits everywhere and scum walking the streets. Not a safe place to be after dark at all.

Well thats whats happened....bedsits and converted houses into flats with many let out to all sorts..... in the 80's/90's when many houses where given permission to divide up into flats 20 years on this is the outcome.

Even todays Echo paper has not chosen to use the headline 'Carjacking in Westcliff'...instead opted for the more suitable headline...'Robbers threaten to stab driver'.. they demanded money....then after a short drive up the road he made his escape and they drove off in his escort which i would wager money on(if i was a gambling man) purely for a swift get a way instead of really wanting his 5-door Escort.
Thats what differance it made to me.

Its like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under

This is a worry n Westcliff, they obvioulsy targeted his car being an old ford escort

Terrible lawlessness, Im assuming these were Albanians or possible eastern europeans. I see plenty dressed for summer in the snow drinking very potent lagers
