Racist Abuse posted on Essex Police Facebook page

A TORRENT of racist abuse was posted on Essex Police's Facebook page following an appeal.

They had asked for information after windows were smashed at a mosque in West Road, Westcliff.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "Essex Police is very concerned at the number of racist comments posted against an earlier appeal made on Friday afternoon about criminal damage to a mosque in the Southend area."

She said they were now reviewing their policy to prevent this happening again.

She added: "We will not tolerate racist language and have passed on details of the comments to our local neighbourhood crime team. These will be reviewed and, if necessary, action will be taken against those who made them."

Would this be the reason the Echo stopped allowing comments on their original story.

Frankly the Echo publishing an outraged story about racist comments on Facebook is beyond hypocrisy.

Echo editor, take a good long look at comments on your own website. For example the comments under this story:

Depends where the servers are. If they are outside the UK (I believe they are in the US) then the police will be told to go jump, even if they obtain a court order. That is the beauty of the internet. Nobody has overall control.

It's called Hate Crime, and you can be prosecuted for it.

Yes it is hypocrisy by the Echo...Its editor allows racial abuse to be termed and considered free speech and defends such on this paper..
