Woman accused of lying about being raped
A WOMAN will stand trial accused of lying about being raped at a Southend hotel.
Amy Barnett, 21, of Boxford Close, Rayleigh, is charged with perverting the course of justice.
She is accused of making an allegation of drug-induced multiple rape at the Skylark Hotel, in Aviation Way, on April 1 with had a tendency to pervert the course of public justice.
Barnett appeared before Southend Magistrates Court smartly dressed in a black trouser suit.
District Judge John Woollard said: “The charge you face is too serious to be tried here, I’m going to send you to be tried at Basildon Crown Court.”
She was released on unconditional bail and is due to enter her plea on January 28.
