Two Britons are being treated in hospital after being involved in a hot air balloon crash in Slovenia in which four people died.

The balloon was carrying 32 people, including children, when it was swept up in a storm and crashed in a fireball outside the capital, Ljubljana.

The extent of the Britons' injuries are unknown but they are not thought to be children.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of the hospitalisation of two British nationals in Slovenia on the 23 August and consular assistance is being provided."

The official STA news agency said two hot air balloons were in the air at the time of the crash, quoting eyewitnesses who said that one of the balloons caught fire while trying to land in a storm.

The other balloon landed safely, it said.
