That underpass is a mugger/rapist's paradise. No locals will use it.

1) If she was on a bike, then that explains the fact she couldn't use the underpass. Last time I looked it was a no-cycling zone. Not that I'd use it as a pedestrian either, I always walk on the roundabout as it's much safer and more convenient.

2) As a cyclist, it's safer to keep riding than get off and walk. When cycling you're part of the traffic and not a hazard; unless you're on a road the Council made less pleasant by painting inadequate cycle lanes....

That underpass is dreadful once darkness falls. Somalian dealers, Drunks, Homeless Drug Addicts, all habitat this area. I don't use it after 7PM it's far too risky. I've had a hoodie try to mug me down there- he tripped over and I legged it!
I have read in the echo a few times of rape incidents occurring down there too.

Just take a visit to it during the say and see the leftovers of last nights inhabitants. Alcohol bottles & Cans, Urine and Vomit are just a few of the pleasures.

I'm a cyclist myself, I cycle on the roads when safe to do so. It's all too common that cars will edge you onto the pavement. I've been knocked off my bike several times by inconsiderate drivers. Bloody Drivers!!

Don't get me started on Southend Council and their cycle farcilities. Have you seen what some council moron has done to the cycle path in Victoria Avenue? Surfaced it with loose gravel. Good luck stopping or turning on that without coming off your bike.

There is a footbridge a hundred ft or so further down Queensway, if people don't want to bother walking down to it and risk crossing the road than it's their responsibility as to want happens.

Not sure if there is enough room to put a footbridge at the spot this preventable accident happened.

Another point the "Echo Comment" saying the road is not safe becaus eof two accidents in two days how many cars go round safely without accident each and every day?

I'd like to see a crack down on the cyclists that seem to think Eastern Esplande is their own exclusive cycle route, I have no issue with those on the offical cycle path but when they ride three a breast using the pedestrian footpath that is when it becomes an issue.

There is no denying that there are bad drivers on the road that said you can not deny that there are also bad cyclists on the road, all too often you see them jump red lights, you see them riding up and down the High Street, yes they can be fined now but why not make it a three strikes system, get stopped three times, get stopped again you loose your bike, say £250 to get it back with a daily storage fee on top of £10 per day if the fine is not paid in full after 30days its given to charity.

Get caught speeding, first offence £1000 fine.
Caught second time £5000 fine.
Third time car taken and crushed.

Caught parking illegally, fined £1000.
Second time fined £5000
Third time, car taken and crushed.
