Long running saga of Basildon Golf Course continues

Firms invited to run golf course Firms invited to run golf course

FIRMS across Europe are being urged to express interest in running Basildon Golf Course and developing a hotel or leisure centre next door.

Basildon Council wants to secure a new future for the course and put behind it the seven-year debacle after control was handed to Jack Barker which never redeveloped the 18-hole course.

It is hoped a developer will come forward the develop five acres next to the course with a hotel and or other leisure uses, so money made from this can be used to finance running the course.

Stuart Sullivan, cabinet member for resources, said: “We want to see a successful and popular facility that the people of Basildon can enjoy now and in the future.

“We are flexible in what leisure uses could be created at the golf course and the approach we are taking allows the private sector to come to us with suitable ideas.”

Are they also invited to submit the 'usual' sum for 'Administration' to the Basildon Council Ale, Pies and Pocket Lining Fund in order to have their submissions consdered in a more favourable light?

I'd be straight in there myself but I have an aversion to queues.
