Concern raised over 600 Canvey homes plan (From Southend Standard)

Everyone's been banging on about Canvey flooding or blowing up for years but it's never happened has it? (if it had it would have saved me a marriage/divorce)

Granted, the infrustructure is stretched with the current level of population so use that against the planners, it's more tangable ;-)

The risk of flood or explosion affecting people living on the site is the same, whether they are living in caravans as today, or houses in the future. I agree the basis of objections standing any chance of succeeding must be based on the increase in head of population housing will generate and their impact on Canvey's infrastructure.

When the houses are built they will be replacing caravans not in addition to the caravans.

There is a large percentage of the caravans being lived in by people who are being housed there by London boroughs so they will have to be moved onto live somewhere else.

A lot of people living there are also claiming benefits.

The new homes will be built and sold. So that will not only generate employment whilst the homes are being built but the new residents will be paying council tax.

I do not forsee any major increase in children needing schools - in some ways the schools will be gaining as there will be less pupils who are not English speaking as their main language.

Likewise doctors dentists etc.

Traffic would not increase by hundreds of vehicles either and there would be a far greater risk of cars being driven by people who pay road tax have insurance and licences.

The caravans are so close together that I think there is far more firerisk of a major hazard than when the homes are built.

most of the people in the caravans dont drive, but if you put familes in to the new homes that will increase cars, more congestion on the islands roads, which are already over used and a night mear to get on and off now days.
how you can say it will not affect the schools is crap, as this could attract more familes and kids to the island,
there is already talk of splitiong the island in two for senior schools placements, all on the long road / charfleets side of the island will be put in cornelius (poor people) and the other side known as the posh side will be put in Castle view, (glad i come under the castle view side LOL) for my kids.

1st point Canvey did flood killing over 50 people read up on its history.

2nd point. There are well over 1000 caravans, they are keeping 300 of them but only building 600 homes, the houses are suppose to be affordable so ok working class people buy them could have 2 or 3 cars if they have a teenager living at home those 3 cars will most like be used to get to work off the island as there isn't many jobs here.

Forgot to say Castlepoint made a rule that no homes would be built within spitting distance from the sea wall and the terminal funny how they can forget all that.

Its been made obvious for years just how much CPBC think about the residents of Canvey.
R Harris got involved when land on the mainland was targeted, where is she now its Canvey????. So far the old core strategy which was thrown out at a cost to the tax payer of over 250,000 is still being implemented via the back door. Funny how so many plans are being past and has the backing of the Council so quickly, wouldnt have anything to do with the knew core strategy which is due out end of Autumn, WOULD IT?? I reckon they are saving the big build destined for the Villiage for the core strategy, they wouldnt want mainland voters to think Canvey is getting away with it..lol
