Dunton plant looking for redundancies

A WAVE of job losses look set to hit Ford’s Dunton plant as the motor giant makes efficiency savings.

Up to 275 jobs are set to go at Dunton and Ford’s other south Essex site at Warley, near Brentwood.

The job losses announced yesterday, which will be on a voluntary basis, are part of plans to axe 500 jobs across Europe.

Union bosses from Unite have called for “full involvement in the negotiations” about the job losses which will effect managerial, supervisory and engineering staff. The job losses come as the company faces massive losses.

Roger Maddison, Unite’s national officer for the automotive industry, said: “Naturally, we don’t like any loss of employment and we will be negotiating the best possible redundancy packages for those wishing to leave.”

Full reaction in today's Echo.

It's all part of the big scheme to rid the company of the employees still covered by 'Blue Book' terms and conditions.

You might have something there. Employees and new starters can no longer join the final salary pension scheme. Skilled workers being offered redundancy at Dagenham, mainly long serving people who get paid extra for the skills they have taken extra training for. Recently qualified apprentices are trained with these skills already so they don't get the extra pay.

You have nothing there. If you read it properly it covers MR and its voluntary! Plenty of people willing to take it but it won't be as good as the 'foundry' deal! Stumpy is now retired as he was a man without portfolio!

has he sold his big house in the country yet?

Saw it several times in the 'for sale' section of one of the free locals...

Is there any truth in the rumour that he's camped out in that greenprotakabin in Honywood Road by the Maingate throwing wood in an old oildrum?

No compulsory redundancies as yet.
Targeted areas do not include Engineering.
Most if not all will be voluntary.
Will allow for more jobs to be made available to new starters at the lower rate agreed in last pay deal.
The company 'Ford' is making large profits, unfortunately the European side of the business will make loss for the next few years due to the economic situation on the continent.
