Town council unanimous against new homes plan

Councillors believe plans for homes on a former Leigh tennis club must go back to the drawing board, yet again.

Leigh Town Council unanimously voted against six houses being built on the site, between Adalia Crescent and Agnes Avenue.

The original plans for seven homes were panned in March after neighbours said the houses would be too big.

So developer Ian Pryor removed one to try to convince councillors. However, Carole Mulroney, chairman of the council, was clearly not impressed.

She said: “The design is still awful.

“It is totally out of character with the whole area.

“Just dropping one house, they have still got six houses on the same area.

“It is not as though they have spread it out. You could design something better that wouldn’t be as intrusive.”

Residents living near the site also attended the meeting to raise their concerns.

One couple, who didn’t want to be named, also said they objected to the way rubbish would be collected from the site.

Bins would be collected from individual homes and taken to a storage area nearby to be collected by dustmen.

Neighbours said they thought people living there would take it upon themselves to get rid of their bin bags throughout the week.

The resident said: “The issue about the refuse has been raised before. We have raised it as an objection on the Southend Council website.

“If everybody had access to the rubbish store they would be able to put their rubbish there any time of the week.”

Leigh Town Council will now lodge its objections with Southend Council, which has the final say on the scheme.

The reality is we are now all living in an almost gridlocked congested area.
We have many domestic and Neighbour disputes on a regular basis annoying crime is a major concern a Police Service at breaking point
Road rage incidents created by people on the edge of a nervous breakdown are now an everyday occurrence.
And we have a manic national press and BBC who drive us further over the edge with major and national concern concerns about Kate's T i Ts will I am all for seeing more of Kate's Beautiful body and less housing.
