Southend man arrested after 15-month-old child is injured in crash

A SOUTHEND man has been arrested after a 15 month old  girl was seriously injured in a car crash.

Police are appealing for witnesses to smash which happened in Earls Colne, north Essex, at about 7.15pm yesterday.

It happened on the B1024 Coggeshall Road and involved a black Vauxhall Zafira and a white Daf lorry.

A 15-month old girl received serious injuries while a man and a six-year-old girl received minor injuries.

The child was taken to the Royal London Hospital by land ambulance and is currently in a stable condition.

All three were in the Vauxhall and are local to the area.

The road was closed until around 2am while initial investigations were carried out.

A 43-year-old man from Southend was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless driving and released on bail pending further enquiries until November 12.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who may have seen the vehicles involved prior to the collision to contact police at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or by email at collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk

I wish the girl well - hopefully she makes a full recovery very soon.

I don't think there's any need for the story to tell us 4 times that the girl is 15 months old though.
