Southend businesses urged to take more apprentices
7:47pm Tuesday 21st August 2012 in Echo News
SOUTHEND Council bosses are encouraging more businesses in the town to hire apprentices.
Working with the National Apprenticeship Service officials for the Tory-led authority have launched a campaign writing to Southend employers to explain the help available in recruiting apprentices.
Businesses could be eligible for a grant of up to £1,500 towards the apprentice’s salary and will have help finding a college or training provider as well as advertising and recruiting.
Nigel Holdcroft, leader of the council and Vic Grimes, divisional director for National Apprenticeship Service will be ceremonially signing the letter on August 29 at Southend Airport, in recognition of the support the airport gives to apprenticeships.
Alastair Welch, managing director of the airport, said: “We are looking forward to growing the number of apprenticeships in the future.”
