PARISHIONERS are trying to bring a historic church back to its former glory.

The friends of All Saints Church, in London Road, Vange is holding a wedding-themed tea party to raise funds to restore the old building and increase its presence in the community.

The rundown church, thought to be one of Basildon’s oldest, dates back to 1328. It has been repeatedly vandalised over the years, including thugs smashing stained glass windows and a bulldozer being driven through one of the walls.

More recently someone tried to rip the donations box off a wall.

On display will be a host of wedding photographs taken at the church throughout the decades, along with a Second World War wedding dress made of parachute silk. The event will take place from 10am until 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
