Woman attacked in Southend park robbery (From Southend Standard)

Disgusting, we are seeing more of this in southend and surrounding areas, bet they was not english! I wish the lady a full recovery.

Once she is caught the criminal will get a severe custodial sentence of five hours and an all-expenses paid trip to the local Apple store.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if it did happen at lunchtime, there have been other similar attacks during the day.

You certainly get the impression that these sort of attacks have increased recently, of course we could blame a varity of factors, the Tories, unemployment, lack of Police, etc. I hope the Police step up a gear and take action over these crimes, perhaps they should divert some of the PCSO's or Policeman currently dishing out fines to cyclists and concentrate on the real problems in this town ?

Another shocking statistic in this once great place to be country of hours. Until our softy government harden up on the treatment of criminals this will become more and more in our society as the final punishment for any offence in this country is too soft. The prisons are like hotels so what more can I say. Scary times I wish this lady better soon not just physically but mentally the scars these low life have inflicted onto her. As we speak they will be looking for their next victims what a sad sad thought.

Yes, they DID mean 12.30pm, this was yesterday lunch time as I saw the poor girl yesterday when I returned home!
This is terrible and as someone else who commented earlier said there have been other similar attacks around here recently in the daytime, I know this because we have had police knocking on doors here asking if we have seen anything. Not so long ago a boy was allegedly mugged nearby Woodgrange Drive and that was 4pm in the afternoon too!
I've only lived here just under 5 years and things have definitely got worse here in that time.
Be vigilant when walking around on your own in Southend people and lets hope these lowlifes get caught very soon.

I too am amazed at the priorities and lack of concentration on the real issues. A few weeks back I got off the train to work at Liverpool Street in the morning and, being a dirty smoker, lit up a cigarette as I left the station. Five seconds later, a woman tripped and fell awkwardly and spilt the contents of her handbag all over Bishopsgate. I threw my cigarette to the floor and tried to help her up and retrieve her belongings for her - I was helped by only one other commuter of the 100s that were marching past at the time. When she assured me and it became apparent that she was ok, I went on my merry way only for a policeman/PCSO (I didn't hang around long enough to find out which offical in a high-vis jacket it was) who clearly saw the whole incident try and fine me £80 for my littering. I immediately just walked off cursing them in a fit of anger.

They seem more intent on fining and making money than actually helping people. I suppose I should be grateful that they didn't try and fine this woman for 'littering' the pavement with her purse, phone and make up.

The police won't do anything - they're too scared of being called racists these days.

I appreciate that my previous comment on my experience errs from the story, I was just following on from andy:)'s comment.

Many years ago, Southchurch Hall Park use to be a quiet, relaxing park where you could eat a packed lunch and feed the ducks. Now it is nothing more than a hangout for groups of druggies, drinkers and, it seems, violent gangs of muggers.
I recently visited this park and saw empty beer cans (and a lot of other litter) and the whole place had the smell of stale urine hanging in the air. The whole park had a feeling of untidyness and it was certainly no longer a relaxing place to be.
This change in Southchurch Hall Park is a small indicator of how the police and the local authority are trying to sweep the rising amount of crime and anti-social behaviour under the carpet, in the hope that we will not notice.
Many of the people in control of our town are more interested in money and furthering their career than doing what is best for the people. It is all well and good tryng to modernise and remodel Southend but surely the priority should be to make the town a safe environment to and to remove the criminal and anti-social elements before spending millions upon millions on new seafronts and gateways. Surely it would be better channelling this sort of money on citizen welfare before using any leftovers for the council to squander on "pet projects". Mybe the people of this town maybe a bit more forgiving of the council if they knew citizen welfare was given a higher financial priority and that reductions in crime and anti-social behaviour were actually visible and felt by Southend residents.
While this incident is dispicable it is not entirely shocking or even enexpected. After all, we read about it nearly every day.

Apparently the biggest crime according to some on here is accusing an ethnic minority-soon to be majority- of any crime as we have to remember the good they do in our society. Show me ONE story in the Echo about a cyclist being injured, compare this to the umpteen recent attacks/muggings involving. But by all means go ahead and live in your cloud cuckoo land where cyclists clearly are public enemy no.1

They should have a team of undercover police walking the area a few streets apart, alone with bluetooth headsets and wait for 1 to become a target, also set up covert cameras in vans and empty houses around the area. I might do that myself in my spare time like a private detective, follow them to a house

Australian crime figures may be lower than here - most countries' figures are - but Australia's far from being a low-crime paradise.

Blaming the UK's high crime figures on immigration - or indeed on any single factor - and claiming that a halt to immigration would bring crime down is unbelievably naive.

Getting back to the story, I hope the poor girl recovers from this horrendous attack and that the police arrest those responsible soon.

As is often with The Echo you have to do your own detective work to try to piece the srory together.
What doesn't help is that the paper (printed yesterday) claimed the attack occurred in Southchurch Park, now (on-line)it's changed location and took place in Southchurch Hall Park .
It's quite important to get the very basic facts right...The Echo ,blows it again.
So what else with regards to this story is fiction or just poorly written?

What do you base your "self-inflicted" comment on? There is no evidence that these attackers were careful, the fact that vital parts were not scratched is not evidence that these wounds were self-inflicted. This is the result of continued social decline and lack of policing. I agree strongly with the poster that talked about the decline of southchurch hall park, it really did used to be lovely, back when you actually saw the occasional foot patrol. Now it is nothing but a meeting place for drunkards, crack smokers and other assorted criminals.

Not really the police's fault, there aren't nearly enough of them and they are hampered by a council far more worried about the (non existent) tourist trade than by the plight of local residents.

And no, voting in fascists like the bnp will not help. There are no short term solutions, the solution is an adequate police force and a society that offers avenues of improvement rather than ignoring criminality.

Surely you can find relevant links to show crime rising and that it is committed by a majority of foreigners/people of colour, especially as every study I can find has overall crime dropping over the last 20 years- using the BCS survey it has nearly halved since 1992. The only significant rise has been in the last six months, but still down significantly on 20 years ago.

Yes we all disagreed but Sir Alf proved us wrong and he was right, just the same as Enoch. Because we dont agree with things they do bite us back when we are wrong.

When Blackburn won the prem some 20 years ago, we all said you cant buy the title that's impossible. Blackburn done it, Man U Chelsea and Man City. now we have to say they were right and we were wrong. Again I dont agree about buying the Prem title but i now hold my hands up and say you clubs were right, Same as Enoch, he was correct and we might not like his words but he was spot on.

Ive explained on posts above why i cant be a racist. mt best mate is Black, I employ 2 black people, I trade with every nationality, my neigbour is an Indian doctor in the private sector and he comes to our partys and we go to his. Ive been Trinidad twice, Barbados West and gap side, Thialand 6/7, Dom Rep once, Sri Lanka, maldives, India, China and list is much more, racists would not spend money to visit these countrys. I didnt say some of my best friends are Black .. I said my best friend George is Black from Jamaica and is my company manager. I agree with deport foreign criminals first time of an offence, any colour. I agree the uk should shut the doors to any foreign person cos weve got enuff. I agree that English people should come 1st in the que for housing nhs treatment jobs etc etc. I agree that we should take no more refugees or asylum seekers or families that cant support themselves like they have to in New Zealand etc etc... I agree with foreign people not being allowed to visit here and having nhs treatment free. I also agree with stopping the building of mosques as that will stop the enrolling of terrorist. My opinion as I love my country and can see it going down hill because of the problems Ive listed. I dont live in the past, the word history to me means long time gone. Im stating NOW how things are and unless we all stick together and try and get government to start looking how bad things are, and if we dont speak up GOD HELP OUR GREAT GRAND-CHILDREN as they will have a horrid time of it.
