Fire at Ford test area in Dunton

A small fire broke out at the Ford Research Centre in Dunton on Saturday morning.
Firefighters from Basildon, Brentwood and Grays were called out at 11am to reports of a blaze in a testing pod at the site, just off West Mayne.
A sprinkler system had been activated by smoke from the flames, helping to extinguish part of the fire.
The area was sealed off while officers finished off putting out the fire which was done by 11.20am.

Smoke does not activate fire sprinklers. Heat of
the appropriate level does.

The ECFRS website reports:-"Firefighte
rs have been called to a small fire in a testing pod. The sprinkler system has actuated and crews are standing by as a precautionary measure, awaiting the arrival of an engineer.At 11:04 hrs, crews report that 50 per cent of the enclosed test area is smoke logged.Four appliances were sent to the incident as part of ECFRS's regular attendance.Crews were preparing to leave the scene at 11:21 hrs."
