A MAN has been ordered to write a letter of apology to two teenage girls for intentionally harassing them.

Two female victims, aged 14 and 17, made separate reports to police about a man harassing them on September 20 in Canvey and in Benfleet.

Police traced the man, a 30-year-old, to the West Midlands and he was issued with a conditional caution for the offences.

He was deemed to have committed a public order offence after causing intentional harassment, alarm and distress towards both victims.

Police used extensive analysis of automatic number plate recognition systems and CCTV footage to track down the man after he left the county.

Faced with extensive evidence from ANPR cameras and CCTV, alongside witness statements and victim statements from the two girls, the man in question admitted he was at fault.

The conditions of the caution mean the man is not to approach any female under the age of 18 unless as part of his employment.

He has also been ordered to write a letter of apology to victims, which will be delivered by Essex Police.

Breach of any of these conditions will result in arrest and a court appearance.

A conditional caution means that if the conditions are not complied with, a prosecution may well go ahead.

The caution will remain on the man’s record.

An Essex Police spokesman thanked the victims for their help in bringing the man to justice.

He said: “This investigation required extensive analysis of ANPR systems and CCTV footage, in addition to the detailed statements.

“Faced with this level of evidence in interview the suspect made full and frank admissions to his behaviour.

“We wish to thank the young victims for their brave accounts and the evidence provided by members of the public to bring this offender to justice.” Essex Police have not described how the man harassed his victims.
