A plaque has been unveiled to recognise the outstanding fundraising efforts of a Thundersley woman.

The plaque which recognises the late Joyce Long MBE was unveiled in Hart Road by Castle Point mayor Brian Wood, along with a number of residents.

Thundersley councillor Colin MacLean said: “When you consider Joyce’s magnificent achievement in raising £1.5 million for Southend and London hospitals then it is easy to see why Town Team members considered her such a worthy recipient of our first community plaque. A truly outstanding ambassador for Thundersley village. I am grateful to the mayor and mayoress for attending and Katherine Ward for allowing us to mount the plaque on her premises.”
