A MAN suffering an epileptic fit ouside a shop was saved by an off-duty special inspector.
Special inspector Fraser MacLeod was off-duty and doing some shopping in Southend when a man began having an epileptic fit outside the shop he was inside.
The shop manager ran outside to respond to the sound of the man falling to find him having a fit, he immediately shouted for anyone that was first aid trained and Fraser rushed to the scene.
At the time, Fraser, who is normally based in Chelmsford, didn’t know that the man was epileptic and proceeded to put him in the recovery position while calling 999.
He continued to check the man’s breathing while updating the ambulance call taker about the man’s condition.
After a few minutes, the man began to regain consciousness and explained he had epilepsy.
Fraser ensured he had no head injuries and left him in the hands of first aid trained staff at the shop until the arrival of an ambulance following the incident on Sunday.
Special Constables have full police powers, uniforms and equipment but sacrifice their free time on a voluntary basis, organising their busy personal lives, day jobs and other commitments around police duties.
