Organisers are gearing up for the popular annual Orsett Show which each year welcomes thousands of families to enjoy a wide range of entertainment.

This year will mark the 111th show, which is held at the Orsett Showground, in Rectory Road, Thurrock, and this year promises to be the best yet.

Set in 30 acres of countryside, the event promises to be great day out with attractions for all the family and is one of the oldest one-day country shows in England.

At the show, there are marquees featuring horticulture, agriculture, hobbies and handicrafts, schools, craft stalls and more than 150 trade stands.

There’s an ever-changing programme of exciting displays in the grand display ring and events and competitions throughout the day in the horse rings.

Displays will include a a stunt bike show, a K9 police dog demonstration, a birds of prey show as well as displays of steam engines and vintage tractors.

There will also be donkey rides, terrier racing, sheep shearing, circus skills as well as a performance from a concert band.

Show president Sean Walsh is looking forward to this year’s event.

He said: “I am delighted to be president of the 2017 show and my family and I look forward to spending a wonderful day meeting with friends and visitors to the show.

“I founded my construction business some 45 years ago and along with my sons, daughters and their families have been proud to be an active member and employer in the local community.

“We have been coming to the show for many years now and really enjoy walking the showground with its many attractions for young and old alike.

“The Orsett Show is a great family day out and I would encourage you to experience the day for yourself.

“I look forward to seeing you on September 2.”

The show is a registered charity run mainly by volunteers with the aim of promoting countryside matters, the borough of Thurrock and local businesses.

Last year, some 300 companies, schools, organisations and charities came together to promote their businesses, sell products, inform and network in a fun filled family day attended by just under 11,000 people.

The Orsett Show affords a unique opportunity for local companies to discuss their business with potential customers and consumers. The average attendance is around 12,000.
