For the first time, pupils at Westcliff High School for Boys have entered the Biology Challenge.
Aimed at 13 to 15-year-old pupils, it rewards students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and having a general awareness of the natural world.
The 19 pupils who entered had to complete two 25-minute papers online.
Three of them - Max Allsopp, Sri Longanathan, and William Skeldon - recieved gold awards. Five won silver, eight bronze and three were highly commended.
