RESIDENTS were left in shock after travellers left huge heaps of rubbish in their wake after leaving a site in Laindon.
Our pictures reveal the true extent of the fly-tipping left last night, which will cost Basildon Council up to £7,000 to remove.
Among the rubbish are old mattresses, suitcases, building supplies and bulging bin bags, strewn across the grass with bits of cardboard and plastic bags.
Gary Edwards, head of street scene and leisure services for Basildon Council, told the Echo: "The amount of waste left behind in St Nicholas Lane, totalling between 30 and 40 tonnes, is among the worst fly-tipping incidents we have known in the borough." (Full story HERE.)
