A PAEDOPHILE teacher who worked as a special sergeant for the Metropolitan Police has been jailed after he admitted sexually assaulting a young boy.

Craig Keane, of Grange Road, Wickford, was a design and technology teacher at Mayflower High School, in Stock Road, Billericay, and more recently worked at Sandon School, in Chelmsford.

The 28-year-old admitted nine charges of sexually assaulting a child aged under 13, after another youngster filmed the attacks on his phone.

All the charges related to a single evening on October 2 last year.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard another boy secretly filmed the attacks, which happened as the victim slept, because he was wary of Keane after he initially came into his room and exposed himself.

He showed the sickening images to his parents the following day.

As a special constable, Keane worked during the summer holidays with the Met Police's predatory offences unit and was able to view indecent images of children.

Kean was jailed for two years and will remain on the sex offenders register for ten years.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Keane is rightly behind bars for his devious and depraved actions against a vulnerable young boy. He must now receive treatment in jail to ensure he is not a risk to children when he is released.

“Great credit must be given to the victim and the child who secretly filmed the attacks, realising Keane’s actions were wrong.

“It is vital that young people know how to spot and report abuse and last year the NSPCC spoke to more than 11,000 primary school children in Essex as part of its Speak Out Stay Safe scheme.”

Anyone concerned about the welfare of a child can call the NSPCC’s helpline on 0808 800 5000. Children can contact Childline on 0800 1111.
