AN officer went the extra mile while patrolling to help an elderly lady to get home safely during the extreme weather.

Pc Marek Jaworski was patrolling an area near Wickford Avenue, Pitsea when he noticed an elderly lady struggling to walk on February 23

The strong winds of Storm Doris were causing issues for the 89-year-old lady to carry her shopping and safely walk upright.

The lady was trying to hold her shopping, keep her hat on and carry her walking stick.

Pc Marek quickly acted and drove back towards the lady in his police car to assist with her onward journey.

He loaded her shopping in his car and drove the lady to her home address.

Once in the car, the lady informed him that she’d been struggling in the wind and had almost fallen over. She also told him that she is due to turn 90 years old in a few weeks.

Pc Jaworski said: "I was pleased to be able to help this lady, as she was clearly struggling and by stopping I was able to ensure she reached her house safely. We had a lovely chat together on the journey home when I found out she was due to turn 90 years old in a few weeks.

"She thanked me for helping to which I said, anyone would have done the same. Thankfully the situation was resolved without any injury and the lady was returned home safely.  I hope she has a lovely birthday when she reaches the big 9-0.”
