SUPERSTAR band Depeche Mode have refuted claims that they have any link to the far-right after being called “the official band of the Alt-Right”.

Mainly famous for being punched in the face live on TV, the white supremacist, Richard Spencer, has claimed that the Basildon rock band were the official band of the Alt-Right, when speaking to the New York Magazine.

Although he later said that his comments were meant as tongue-in-cheek, many have hit back, insisting the band had no ties to the Alt-Right.

A spokesman for the band insisted that they had no ties to Mr Spencer or the Alt-Right and do not support the Alt-Right movement.

Basildon singer Alison Moyet, who shot to fame as half of the duo Yazoo, quickly came to the defence of the band.

She tweeted: “The notion that Depeche Mode are Alt-Right is ludicrous and some bloke liking them is not an exchange of love fluids.”

The band themselves are famously left wing and have criticised President Donald Trump publicly.

Singer Dave Gahan told the Italian media that the things Mr Trump said could be likened to “what someone was saying in 1935” and insisted they could promote fear.
