A VOLUNTEER has been thanked for his ten years of hard work ‘leading the way to a healthier lifestyle’.

Rochford district resident Barrie Figg has been recognised for his ten years of service in leading the Council’s very popular health walks.

Mr Figg was presented with a special certificate acknowledging the hard work and dedication he has shown over the past decade at a special ceremony at Hockley Woods last week.

June Lumley, councillor responsible for Community, has thank the volunteer for his work.

Mrs Lumley said: “I feel very privileged to be able to thank Mr Figg for his 10 years service he has put a lot of effort into the health walks and thoroughly deserves to have that dedication recognised.

“Without the generosity of volunteers such as Mr Figg the Council would not be able to offer such valued activities.”

Rochford District Council co-ordinates the health walks programme for both the Rochford District and the Castle Point Borough which include walks through the stunning Hockley Woods and along the picturesque sea wall of Canvey Island.

The walks are designed for anyone wishing to improve their health, meet new people and take part in some fun physical activity.

The walks are up to an hour long and led by fully trained volunteer walk leaders.

They’re also free of charge.
