A SECOND man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder three men in a Canvey shooting.

Conall Regan, of Thames Road, Canvey, is charged with attempting to kill William Tatham, Reece Johnson and a third man known only as Woody, on August 6.

The 22-year-old appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face the attempted murder charges as well as another charge of possessing of a sawn-off shotgun on the same day.

The charges relate to an incidence in Somnes Avenue, when a gun was discharged inside a car.

Wearing a blue Nike jumper and tracksuit bottoms, Regan spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

Lesley Chipps, prosecuting, said all four charges were too serious to be dealt with at the magistrates’ court.

She said: “There is a second defendant in respect of this case and he has already been sent to the crown court. These two matters will be joined together.”

Callum Hutchins, 20, of Mornington Road, Canvey, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, as well as possessing a shotgun with intent to endanger life.

He denied the charges at Southend Crown Court earlier this month and was remanded in custody until a trial in February.

Regan was remanded in custody to appear at the crown court on Wednesday, October 26, when it is expected he will appear in the dock alongside Hutchins.

Anthony Harbridge, chairman of the bench, said: “This case is going to the crown court.

“You have been given a provisional date of October 26. In the meantime you will be remanded in custody.”

Regan nodded and replied: “Thank you very much sir.”

As he was led away from the dock, Regan blew kisses towards friends and family members in the public gallery.

Det Supt Kevin Baldwin urged more witnesses to come forward and tell police what they know.

He said: “At the moment we are still gathering evidence and the investigation continues.

“Anyone who hasn’t yet come forward, we would hope that they would now have the confidence to.

“We know that there will be people out there who know what went on.

“They can even report it anonymously.”
