ADULTS and children enjoyed getting muddy at a fundraising event.
The annual Island to Island Mud Run raises money for Havens Hospices.
The unique run on the Thames Estuary mud goes from Bell Wharf in Old Leigh to Two Tree Island and back.
The full route is 1,200 metres with a shorter one for families atg 900 metres.
Organiser Susie May said: “Everyone had a really good time and got very muddy.
“The sun shone for us so that was good as we had been concerned there were going to be storms.
“We think there were about 200 people taking part including lots of kids who did a shorter version which had lots of obstacles they had to climb under and tyres they had to go through.
“Everyone who got involved enjoyed it.”
Spectators also enjoyed watching the brave runners taking on the mud for the run.
The annual event raises about £10-15,000 with sponsorship from Billericay-based recruitment firm Tangent International.
Havens Hospices provide specialist care for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinsons, cardiac disease, Muscular Dystrophy and neurological conditions.
