ESSEX’S chief constable has spoken out after two Southend police officers were injured while breaking up a brawl in a house.

The late night incident happened when police were called to a fight involving four people at an address in Anson Chase, Shoebury, at 12.20am on Sunday morning.

Although the two officers received only minor injuries, their cars were also damaged, leaving chief constable Stephen Kavanagh fuming.

He took to Twitter and angrily condemned the incident.

He said: “I will not tolerate attacks on Essex Police officers. This weekend knives, assaults, vehicles damaged - courts now need to support us too.”

Southend PC Daryl Jones also spoke out about the attack.

He said: “Gutted to hear two officers in #Southend injured last night when responding to a job...thoughts with them today! #JobLikeNoOther.”

He added: “Hearing that they are OK...but still...we run to help people...we should never be assaulted trying to help!”

One of the officers received a hand injury while the other was left with an injured shoulder.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were contacted shortly after 12.20am on Sunday, June 26, with reports of a disturbance at an address in Anson Chase, Shoebury.
