A FUNDRAISING day at the Eastgate Shopping Centre was a huge success and raised around £2,000 of needed funds for two children's charities.

The day of activities at the Basildon shopping centre was part of the One Great Day initiative.

Families were kept entertained by balloon animals and a whole host of entertainers and activities.

Mike Horton, marketing manager at Eastgate Shopping Centre, said: "It was a wonderful day and while we don’t know the sums collected yet we are delighted with the way it went.

“It certainly was one great day, and most importantly for two great causes in the Great Ormond Street Charity and Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

"To have Eastgate staff teaming up with some of our retail partners a wonderful day for all, with fun and entertainment dovetailing with the serious side of our work: helping to raise vital funds. In addition, our shoppers are as generous as it gets, and supported this event with tremendous enthusiasm and kindness.

“All in all therefore this was Basildon at its best and uniting, and we thank all those involved for giving their time and support to make it such a success.”
