A SOUTHEND library was transformed into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter series as youngsters dressed as characters from the famous books.
The 22 children aged between eight and 10 visited the Southend Fourm for a special Harry Potter Night when they were divided into the four houses from the series- Gryffindor, Slytherin House, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.
There were readings from the books before the children enjoyed games, including a Harry Potter quiz where they competed against each other and the Lizard Quick Draw Challenge.
The Southend night was one of a series of Harry Potter nights being organised across the country by the book’s publishers Bloomsbury.
The forum was decorated to represent familiar features from the books, including Diagon Alley and there were lots of props and potions.
Anne Bonham, manager of children’s services at Southend libraries, said: “The library looked really good. The children enjoyed the event and so did the parents.”
