A STORAGE container in a popular public park has been transformed to provide a habitat for wildlife.

The container at the Wick Country Park, Wickford, has been given a facelift after a funding grant from the Veolia North Thames Trust.

It has enabled Basildon Council and the Friends of the Wick Country Park to adapt the container with eco-cladding to create a “green roof”.

Kevin Blake, councillor responsible for leisure and the arts, said: “This is another example of how we are “greening” the borough and encouraging wildlife to flourish for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

“We believe that this conversion will prove highly attractive to a wide range of wildlife, including solitary bees, wasps, nesting bats and an array of wildflower species gracing the roof.

“We are again grateful for the continuing support of Veolia North Thames Trust in helping us enhance the environment for residents.”
