A plush seafront hotel is pushing ahead with plans for a new £1.5million spa.

The four-star Roslin Hotel, in Thorpe Esplanade, Thorpe Bay, hopes to expand next month following a 12-month delay in the project due to planning issues.

The hotel has changed architects and changed some designs for its spa extension.

The new spa will include a sauna, steamroom, five new treatment rooms, an expanded nail bar, a sea view terrace and hydrotheraphy pool.

Megan Harris, the spa’s manager, said: “We have developed all departments of the hotel over the past nine years and now it’s the spa’s turn.”

An extra 15 members of staff will be taken on as part of the proposals, with the hotel already employing 120 workers.

If permission is given, work could start straight away with the new and improved spa open to the public early next year.

Ms Harris added: “The treatments we provide at the hotel are a step above what is available in the town, and this will be an even more luxurious experience for customers.

“We are so busy at the moment our existing customers are becoming increasingly frustrated at not being able to get an appointment, and that’s not what we want. That’s the reason we want to expand – there’s a real demand.”

Some local residents have objected to the planning application on parking grounds, but five newcar parking spaces have been added.

The hotel will also encourage car sharing and rail travel.

A separate application has been submitted to the council, asking to demolish the front conservatories at the hotel’s restaurant and function room, and rebuild them.

That will allow the hotel to expand its function room
