A KINDHEARTED woman shaved off her long hair to raise money for a local mum who had both her legs amputated.

Helen Brown is the latest person to step forward to help Tracy Ralph, 34, from Hawkwell.

Mrs Ralph was rushed to hospital over Christmas with pneumonia and was placed in an induced coma.

She then contracted meningitis and septicaemia before battling blood clots, bleeding on the brain and complete organ failure.

The mother, from Hawkwell, had to have both legs amputated below the knee and also had her fingers removed at St Thomas’s Hospital, in London.

Now, two months later, the mum-of-two is back on her feet thanks to prosthetics supplied by the NHS.

Wellwishers have raised £159,000 for Tracy’s rehabilitation and new prosthetic legs.

Friend Helen Brown, from Hockley, is the latest to do her bit and had her long hair shaved off.

Family and friends gathered at Bramerton Church in Hockley for the big shave which has raised more than £1,000 for Mrs Ralph with donations still flooding in.

Amanda Ralph, Tracy’s sister- in-law, said: “The very brave Helen shaved all her locks off to help Tracy get back on her feet.

“ It was an amazing thing to do and an amazing amount of money raised.

“Well done Helen.”
