THE FA are likely to investigate the incident at the end of Chelsea's FA Cup quarter-final win at Tottenham when a fan appeared to aim a punch at Frank Lampard.

The supporter ran on to the pitch after the final whistle of the replay at White Hart Lane after the visitors' 2-1 victory, which keeps Jose Mourinho's side in the hunt for all four trophies this season.

Chelsea's win, courtesy of stunning goals by Andriy Shevchenko and Shaun Wright-Phillips, sets up a semi-final with Blackburn, but the result was marred by ugly scenes afterwards, with at least one other fan getting on the pitch.

"I saw the guy coming and wanted to keep my eye on him because if I turn my back, I thought he might get one on me," Lampard said.

"I just ducked and the stewards got to him. The way he ran at me I think he'd had a few drinks.

Spurs will co-operate fully with the FA and ban for life the fan.

A statement read: "We can confirm that two fans entered the field of play, one from each club.

"The Tottenham fan is to receive an immediate lifetime ban from matches at White Hart Lane and will appear in court during the coming week. Details of the Chelsea supporter have been forwarded to Chelsea Football Club and we believe they will be taking similar action."

Shevchenko found the top corner 10 minutes into the second half, with Wright-Phillips steering a volley home before Robbie Keane pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Mourinho said: "The most important thing is how the team fought together. This team is committed to reaching the final."

Spurs boss Martin Jol was left to rue his side losing a 3-1 lead at Stamford Bridge in the initial tie. "You can't say the best team has won but it was a great goal from Shevchenko," said the Dutchman.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 18th goal of the season to keep Manchester United's treble hopes alive, and book a semi-final tie against Watford.

Middlesbrough players and staff were sure Ronaldo had dived to win a penalty after Jonathan Woodgate's challenge in the 75th minute.

But Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Ronaldo, saying: "We have had some great players at this club in my 20 years here and Cristiano is up there with the best of them." Revised semi-final draw
