WORKS to revamp gas mains in Southend will continue over the school holidays.
Engineers will be working at the junction of Hamstel Road and Central Avenue, opposite Hamstel Infant and Nursery School, for the next two weeks.
Ageing metal gas mains will be replaced with durable new pipes.
Temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed to enable the work to take place.
The pedestrian crossing on Hamstel Road, close to the junction with Central Avenue, will also be temporarily switched off for the duration of the work.
National Grid project engineer Steve Edwards said: “We’re doing all we can to ensure we deliver this work with minimal disruption. This includes working during the school Easter holiday period when roads are generally quieter to reduce congestion.
The work is part of a larger project taking place to replace 25km of gas mains across the borough.
