MULTIMILLION pound proposals to revamp the rundown Laindon Shopping Centre could be unveiled as early as this spring.

Councillors will look at how the regeneration of the Sixties concrete centre is going at a meeting of the overview and scrutiny committee next week.

A report ahead of the meeting said councillors and officers had met with Mar City, the developer which is buying the centre from BDO, the administrators of former owner Laindon Regeneration.

The report said: “Prior to the end of the year, the administrators confirmed it had identified a preferred bidder and contracts have been signed with Mar City.

The company has a track record of delivering successful mixed use and housing developments and is quoted on the London Stock Exchange.

“Discussions are currently progressing with Mar City to identify a programme of activity to secure a planning application that will deliver a viable development that meets the aspirations of the community.

It is hoped that the plans will be available in the spring.”

Laindon Regeneration had revealed its own ambitious plans for a new housing estate and shopping centre, but went into administration in 2013.
