TWO men are lucky to be alive following a horrific crash in Orsett.

One man was thrown from a car, and another remained trapped, following the accident between a Citroen and a lorry in Brentwood Road, near Langdon Hills golf course.

The men received back and neck injuries, which are not thought to be serious.

Facebook user Harry Hopwood, who was at the scene when the incident took place, posted pictures and comments about the crash on his page.

He wrote: “The lorry pulled out of a blind turning. They were both coherent.

“I was worried as the driver of the car told me he was on chemo and had low blood platelets, so I was concerned he was bleeding.

The passenger had recently had a heart operation as well.

“They’re very lucky they are alive.”

Emergency services including two fire crews, two ambulances and a rapid response car rushed to the scene of the incident at about 6.20am on Friday.

Firefighters rescued the man trapped in the car using two sets of cutting equipment. He was out by 7.05am. Firefighters also gave first aid and oxygen to the man thrown from the car. The casualties were taken to Basildon Hospital as a precaution.

Mr Hopwood added on his Facebook page: “I would have been looking at two dead bodies this morning had it not been for seatbelts and airbags.

“It honestly makes you realise how easy it is to lose everything.”

Police also attended the incident and a spokeswoman said that inquiries were being carried out.

The road remained closed between the A13 Orsett Cock roundabout and Prince Charles Avenue for much of Friday morning. It was reopened by 10am.

Anyone with information on the crash should call police on 101.
