A DEVOTED sister is planning to completely revamp her disabled brother’s home...in just a day!

Hayley Watts, 34, has spent the past six months badgering businesses and fundraising so she can give brother Glenn Whatling’s home in Middle Cloister, Billericay, a new lease of life. And she managed to raise £6,000.

Mr Whatling has Down’s Syndrome and moved into the property, which is owned by charity the Anvil Trust and Swan Housing, 14 years ago – giving him the independent living his family never thought was possible.

However, the house is now in need of some work, which is where his big sister Hayley has stepped.

She said: “The Anvil Trust has been brilliant. He lives at the property with a housemate and they have live-in carers, who stay with them in a spare room.

“They love living there, but they are two young men, so after 14 years the house is in need of some work.”

Hayley has managed to secure funding and volunteers from Costa Coffee’s and Lloyds Bank’s community funds.

She has also got donations from a number of local businesses along with TK Maxx and Asda.

Hayley and the boys also organised their own fundraising events over the past six months, including cake bakes and charity meals.

Hayley of Alexander Mews, Billericay, said: “The house is so important to my brother and his housemate.

“It has given them the independence to live their own lives. They have really packed social lives with lots of clubs and activities and volunteer at the Salvation Army at Hadleigh Farm.

“We lost our mum four years ago and she was a big advocate of him living independently.

She did not want to see him in a care home.

“Both of the boys have been involved in the fundraising for this.”

The revamp will take place next Wednesday.
