YOUNGSTERS quizzed their MP on issues from streetlights to the Scottish referendum.

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, was put in the hot seat by 25 pupils from Canvey primary schools.

Hosted by Lubbins Park Primary School, in May Avenue, pupils aged four to 11 from Lubbins Park, Canvey Junior School, Northwick Park Primary and William Read Primary joined forces to challenge Mrs Harris.

Louise Lawton, deputy headteacher of Lubbins, said: “It went really well. Rebecca Harris said she had a fantastic time.

“It was great to have schools in Canvey coming together and there was a good community atmosphere.

“It was a chance for the children to see firsthand how democracy works. They asked questions on the Scottish referendum and why the streetlights go out at night on Canvey.”

The pupils formed a council to put together a paper for Mrs Harris to hand to Prime Minister David Cameron.
